Fridays was ABC's answer to NBC's Saturday Night Live. Mark Blankfield was a rising star until about the mid 1980s. Michael Richards became a star. Melanie Chartoff didn't fare so well after the show. Rich Hall became a star, and Larry David didn't end up doing too badly after the show, either. As a whole, even though the early 1980s were shit years for SNL, the writing for Fridays was much weaker and the enthusiasm of the Hollywood studio audience was obviously too stoned and laid back compared to the edgier, more lively audiences in New York for SNL
